As any Skritch fan will tell you, the Skritch sound is heavily characterized by electric vocal turntable scratches. The man behind most of these innovative techniques, and Skritch's resident vocal DJ, is Tim Kua. As a musician, Tim is not only at the forefront of the revolutionary vocal transition (from traditional "doo-wop" to contemporary hip-hop influenced a cappella), he has over the years developed a systematic and individual talent that has to a large extent defined the Skritch sound and lends an added punch to Skritch's astounding onstage performance.

Tim's musical experience is varied as it is deep. Formerly the Vice-President of the Anglo-Chinese School (Independent) Choir and the Tenor Sectional Leader of the Anglo-Chinese Junior College Choir, he has won numerous awards (both local and international) during his time as a choral singer, including the Grad Prix award at the Tampereen-Savel International Choir Festival in Tampere, Finland. He further honed his pop-singing chops as vocalist of the band One-Liner, a favourite at many popular Singaporean nightspots. Tim spent much of his childhood involved in musical theater, and played lead roles in several musical productions throughout his time in school. His training and experience means that Tim is not only a fantastic soloist, but also an unwavering backup singer, capable of supporting even the most intricate of harmonies - a skill much depended-upon by Skritch.

Tim has in recent years proven to be somewhat of an a cappella renaissance man, having dabbled with almost every aspect of the industry, from singing, to vocal scratching, to producing, and even to beatboxing. Indeed, Tim has emerged as a welcome backup percussionist, allowing Pete to occasionally sing harmony or lead. His beatboxing skill, which has been carefully and purposefully honed over time, gives Skritch a dimension of versatility that not many other vocal bands can afford. Indeed, at the National A Cappella Championships 2006, Tim was crowned Vocal Percussionist of the Year, an award that not only recognizes his class as a beatboxer, but also speaks volumes for the strength in depth of Da 6-Man Vocal Band Jam.
